How PREP Kitchens works is one of the first questions food entrepreneurs ask when comparing commercial kitchen rentals. Members get access to fully equipped production space, storage, shared equipment, business amenities, and scheduling tools without building a kitchen from scratch.

  • Two Types of Shared Kitchen Stations

PREP Kitchens offers two main shared-kitchen options.

    Hourly Shared Kitchen Membership

Hourly members choose a monthly membership level based on their production needs:

    • 20 hours
    • 40 hours
    • 60 hours
    • 80 hours or more

Members reserve a station and the equipment they need. The booked production time is deducted from their monthly hours.

Hourly members may increase their membership level as their production needs grow.

    Dedicated Shared Kitchen Station

A dedicated shared station is assigned to one member for a flat monthly fee.

Only that member uses the station, creating a more consistent workspace. Dedicated members still need to reserve shared equipment through PREP’s scheduling system.

    Both Options Include 24/7 Access

Both hourly shared kitchen members and dedicated shared station members can access PREP Kitchens facilities 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Hourly members must reserve their station and equipment before producing. Dedicated members have exclusive access to their assigned station but still need to book shared equipment.

    What Actually Uses Your Hours?

Membership hours are only used while producing at a reserved station.

The following activities do not reduce production hours:

    • Washing dishes
    • Accessing dry storage
    • Getting products from cooler or freezer storage
    • Using the conference room
    • Working in common areas that are not designated for production
    • Networking with other members

This allows members to use their purchased hours for actual production instead of watching the clock while carrying supplies or scrubbing pans.

    How Scheduling Works

Members must reserve their station and required equipment before production.

PREP Kitchens uses its own scheduling software, which members can access from a mobile device or computer. The system displays availability and prevents two members from booking the same station or equipment at the same time.

No clipboard roulette. No arriving with 200 chicken breasts only to discover someone else has the oven.

    Orientation Comes Before Production

Every member completes an orientation before using the kitchen.

Orientation covers kitchen rules, equipment operation, cleaning procedures, scheduling, storage, and how stations must be left after production.

This is especially helpful for members who are unfamiliar with commercial equipment.

PREP Kitchens provides cleaning supplies, while members are responsible for cleaning their station and equipment after use.

    Important Rules for Hourly Members

Hourly members must use the station during the time they reserved.

Monthly hours do not roll over. Any unused hours expire at the end of the membership period.

Members should choose a realistic membership level and schedule production days in advance, especially when planning to work during peak hours.

Which Option Is Right for Your Business?

An hourly membership may work best for businesses with occasional production, developing demand, or limited startup costs.

A dedicated station may make more sense for businesses that produce frequently, need a consistent workspace, have regular employees, or want a more predictable production schedule.

The goal is not to rent the biggest kitchen possible. It is to choose the option that supports the business now while leaving room to grow.
